La música, el teatro y la danza representan actividades altamente técnicas y complejas que conllevan un gran número de repeticiones de gestos y posturas. A esto se le añade una importante carga emocional por la puesta en escena y muchas horas de trabajo agrupadas en poco tiempo, lo que nos lleva generalmente a una serie de lesiones muy específicas en cada campo.

No tienen los mismos problemas los profesionales de la voz, músicos o bailarines. Igualmente existen diferencias notables en las necesidades de cada sector. No es lo mismo un bailarín de fanky o de danza clásica, así como tampoco tienen las mismas necesidades un actor de mimo o un monologuista. El fisioterapeuta especializado en artes escénicas conoce la dificultad técnica y las necesidades de cada caso. Estos problemas se pueden evitar con un buen trabajo de prevención en los entrenamientos, ensayos, y correcciones posturales en la técnica y la puesta en escena, y quién mejor que un fisioterapeuta para realizar esta tarea. A nivel de rendimiento, el artista se equipara a un deportista de alto nivel, tiene sus lesiones específicas. Al igual que en la mayoría de las especialidades deportivas se acepta la imprescindibilidad de la figura del fisioterapeuta, en el mundo de las artes escénicas debería asumirse como una figura igualmente necesaria. En definitiva, el fisioterapeuta especializado en artes escénicas:

  1. Previene las lesiones acondicionando el cuerpo para poder realizar mejor las técnicas necesarias a cada campo.
  2. Ayuda a corregir gestos o actitudes lesivas, mejorando así su rendimiento.
  3. Trata las lesiones ya instauradas y evitar su recaída.
  4. Ayuda a contrarrestar los efectos negativos de una exigencia física y emocional que en algunos casos es ineludible por exigencias de la actuación; aconsejándole autotratamientos o autoestiramientos que le ayuden a relajar los tejidos y articulaciones más solicitados.
